Perfect Vintage Romance

Introducing the lovely Becky and Ben, and their gorgeous vintage-inspired Viva La Diva Events wedding.   We especially love the bride’s Marchesa gown!  Isn’t she stunning?!  Huge thanks to Jess + Nate for these beautiful photos.  Floral by Passionflower in Ann Arbor, stationary and signage by Rock Paper Scissors and Paper & Honey, hair by Erin Ahern of Salon Buzz in Chicago, makeup by Renata Stojcevski of Troy, bride’s attendants gowns by Adreana Pappel, ML Monique Lhuillier and Jenny Yoo.

Detroit Love

We are so happy to share with you Brooke and Sammy’s red carpet wedding at the historic Fox Theater.  Every detail, including the towering cake, mirror the opulence of the lobby.  The dessert tables were a collaborative effort with the Bride’s Detroit bakery, Love and Buttercream.  We hope you’ll agree that the macaron towers are a wonderfully decadent flourish.

The groom’s cake is an edible homage to Detroit today.   Look closely to see all of Brooke and Sammy’s favorite haunts!  Does it include any of your favorites (or are you more of an American Coney fan)?

Dreamy Farm Wedding

We love the cafe lights, fun foral, and big smiles at Jess and Ben’s outdoor Misty Farm wedding.  As always Alison and her crew at Viva La Diva knocked it out of the park, and Jess + Nate captured it beautifully.  Featured here is our mini-cupcake dessert table, macarons, and a buttercream cutting cake.

Floral Galore

The proportions of this horizontal striped buttercream cake were just perfection, the 360° floral placement is breathtaking, and these photos by Lauren Gabrielle are beautiful.  Macarons were a sweet final touch on each place setting.  We hope you enjoy these photos of Lori and Josh’s Lovett Hall reception as much as we do.

Thank You A. Alfred Taubman!

At Sweet Heather Anne, we are truly blessed to have an ongoing relationship with the University of Michigan.  We were  commissioned to make this cake, with it’s sharp corners and cantilevers, for the reception of donor A. Alfred Taubman.  We hope you enjoy these beautiful photos by Abby Rose.

Fresh looks for Spring!

Simple Treats Nicole Haley1Although it barely seems like it, it is *technically* Spring here in Michigan, and so we decided to freshen up our Simple Treats cake designs to welcome in the season!  We’ve created a peach colored garden rose for a sweet romantic look, a wreath of sweet little pastel hearts,  whimsical multi-colored confetti and a couple of beautiful hand painted plaques for a very modern appearance.  We also kept on our popular gilded heart topper, because for a simple message of love, how could you beat that?

NicoleHaleyPhotography44-3133091243-O

Once we were thrilled with the appearance of the cake, we couldn’t resist switching up one of our available flavors to one that guests have been clamoring for ever since we debuted it for Thanksgiving last year–chocolate salted caramel.   This really special flavor is one we crave when we want to treat ourselves, and now we’re making it available for you!  Our deeply chocolate-y chocolate cake (made with Calder Dairy butter, and hand cracked local eggs) is now paired with luscious caramel, lightly salted to bring out the complexity of the flavor.  Add a layer of creme fraiche buttercream with real vanilla beans, and you have a cake welcome at any party!

Of course, we still have our signature flavor, Vanilla Damson Plum, made with our brown sugar vanilla cake layered with homemade lemon curd and slightly tart Damson Plum preserves that we can in the fall for use all year round.

Something important to note: we’re not a traditional bakery in that we make a bunch of cakes and have them waiting around for days in hopes that someone might buy them–we make every cake to order, and we’re excited to be able to offer these as an affordable option for your birthdays and other special occasions.  Check out our gallery here for the different finishes and toppers available.

Have we tempted you enough?  Give us a call at 734-913-2025 to order a cake especially made for you today!  Please give at least 48 hours for your order, but we will always try to accommodate any last minute orders that we can.

Thank you to Lauren at Dear Golden for use of her beautiful store for our photo shoot–it’s newly open, and FULL of gorgeous things that we love– and to Nicole Haley for her fantastic photography!

A Casual Affair: Karissa & Cliff

It was so fun to receive these beautiful photos by Julie Pepin of Karissa and Cliff’s outdoor Michigan wedding (especially of the cake cutting)!  We were able to do what we do best, and I think you’ll agree that the overall effect is stunning.  Everything is edible– gum paste flowers, fondant bark & royal icing moss.

Abby’s Making Moves!

You guys may have heard that the team at Sweet Heather Anne is growing!  We’ve added Kim as our business manager, we’re in the midst of hiring a new decorator, and Abby, our interim business manager, is moving into the newly created head baker position.

So, here’s the deal.  We’ve known for a long time that Abby is a wildly talent chef and baker.  She studied at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York, and she was the pastry chef for three years at Delphina in San Francisco.  In Ann Arbor she owns her own company, Central Provisions, with her boyfriend and cheesemonger extraordinaire, Steve.  She’s a hard worker.  Every day after working her butt off here, she goes home to do more — to recipe test, write business plans, cook dinner for friends and family, serve until one in the morning at the Bar in Braun Court, send packages of preserves around the world (ok, just the US, but it sounded better, right?).  Plus, she’s adorable the whole time.  We should have been prepared to have our socks knocked off.

Abby has come in and taken on our baking projects with gusto.  She attacks problems head on with intense enthusiasm, and she brings vibrant energy to the kitchen that is a breath of fresh air for Heather and me.  She’s taken on the dessert counter simple treats as a creative project, and it’s incredibly inspiring.

We know Abby is destined for bigger things than this little cake shop.  She and Steve are looking for investors for Central Provisions, and I predict you’ll see them in a brick and mortar establishment within the year.  In the mean time, we’re so happy that she’s here with us.

Enjoy Nicole Haley‘s beautiful photos of Abby recipe testing cakes.

For more Abby (and Steve), follow them on Facebook and Instagram.  Find out about special dinners and order their holiday gift boxes.  They promised they’ll make a pop-up return, so keep your eyes peeled.

Oh, she made adorable mini-pies for the holiday this week.  No, not that one with the beer and leprechauns. We’re talking PI DAY!  Ann Arbor is a college town, now let’s see our nerds represent at the dessert counter!
