In honor of this sunny, spring-forward day, we’d like to share with you a wedding from another sunny day last September. Our decorator, Chrissy, married her sweetheart, Matt, during the Oktoberfest celebration in Frankenmuth, MI. We were just tickled to see their dirndl and lederhosen, not to mention their wedding steins– oh, and the sausages! Her rustic one-tiered cake was just enough to feed their intimate party. Chrissy procured the porcelain deer to top it off.

When Lindsey and Peter came to us wanting their wedding to overflow with summer lavender, I knew I liked them, and I knew that their wedding would be a lovely affair. Together we created a trio of cakes finished with our signature buttercream and lavender garlands. Half of the macarons were filled with lavender buttercream made with buds from my own garden. The other half were grey dusted in gold, filled with bergamot ganache– truly delicious.

As a part of the University of Michigan’s Aero100 celebration, we recreated this historic, record-breaking Lesher Teal aircraft in cake. After a very long week of planning, I have to say that constructing the cake was an engineering feat in itself, though maybe not rocket science.
You’ll notice that the plane is resting atop the sine wave field. For anyone who hasn’t experienced this outdoor sculpture on North Campus, we highly recommend a visit. Whether you’re in the mood to sit on a lump, or frolic like a child among the waves, you’ll find that the sculpture’s allure is derived from how you interact with it. Heather counts sculpting the field among her favorite projects ever.
Climbing from the plane is a sugar figurine of the late Edgar J. Lesher, creator of the Lesher Teal and long-time U of M aeronautical engineering faculty member.
Have you ever thought, “Our wedding is becoming a three ring circus?!” When Ilse’s fiance, Ken, said just that, the comment inspired this surprise cake for their rehearsal dinner. We’re glad he did too, because she’s quite the stunner.

We’ve begun to roll out our 2014 fall classes! As we finalize the schedule in the coming weeks, we will continue to update the website– so keep your eyes peeled. In addition to the Piping Workshop and Hand Painted Cake workshop, we will have a few evening cookie decorating classes.
For the holiday season we will offer a Cake-In-A-Jar Workshop, holiday cookie classes, and a holiday cake workshop (maybe another cake and flowers workshop?!)
You’ve met Abby. (Remember, she’s wildly talented?) She does it all – answers phones, bakes tasty cakes, makes magical pop-up dinners. All of us here at Sweet Heather Anne are big fans. We are also big fans of her food, which goes by the name Central Provisions. The company was born in San Francisco a few years ago and is co-owned with her partner and cheese monger extraordinaire, Steve. She’s relentlessly dedicated to seasonal, local ingredients and fresh flavors, and her attention to detail is extraordinary. She and Steve are currently looking for investors for their brick-and-mortar larder, but in the mean time they continue to delight with special pop-up dinners, tasting classes, and now this — the summer picnic basket.
Abby says the picnic baskets have been her most special project to date. They are full of beautiful food created almost entirely from Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market veggies, and include special Sweet Heather Anne macarons. The most wonderful thing is that they become a magical pop-up dinner for two wherever they land. Where will you be when you taste Central Provisions food next? Don’t wait too long. It’s so good.

We are so happy to share with you Brooke and Sammy’s red carpet wedding at the historic Fox Theater. Every detail, including the towering cake, mirror the opulence of the lobby. The dessert tables were a collaborative effort with the Bride’s Detroit bakery, Love and Buttercream. We hope you’ll agree that the macaron towers are a wonderfully decadent flourish.
The groom’s cake is an edible homage to Detroit today. Look closely to see all of Brooke and Sammy’s favorite haunts! Does it include any of your favorites (or are you more of an American Coney fan)?
