It’s a perfectly grey, chilly, Halloween afternoon in Ann Arbor, and in Espresso Royale on Main Street I can’t turn around without having a small lion or firefighter underfoot! I’m proud to say that we have done our part at Sweet Heather Anne to add to the holiday fun. After finishing our regular work week, we worked ourselves silly to finish a SMASHING Harry Potter dessert table with Bill of Bill Hamilton Designs and Ana of Two Foot Creative. We’ll be posting about it as soon as we get photos, but here’s a teaser… The table was inspired by the Hogwarts Great Hall, and we even make golden snitch macarons! Check out our Pinterest inspiration board here.
As I worked a piping marathon on the Harry Potter cake (there’s another clue!), Heather was working miracles on a beautiful cake for the Gallery Project opening this Friday, November 4. The cake we’ve developed explores our ingredient sourcing, and it’s a very special cake for us. We care very much about where our ingredients come from, and about each person who helps to get them to us. Both our decorator, Taylor, and business manager, Rachel, spent time in Italy studying Slow Food. Plus, you can find Heather (if you can get there early enough!) each Wednesday morning at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market scoping the goods for lunch or for the next Sweet Heather Anne flavor!
Sometimes, a cake turns out just the way it was supposed to be. Exactly that happened this week with JR’s 30th birthday cake. I got the inspiration from neon signs, mid-century architecture, and (yes!) even those weird attached chairs just back from the lane.. then Heather finished it with a bangin’ topper. It’s certainly a good sign when our decorators each want one for themselves!
I hope you all have enjoyed our first blog post. Please, leave us some feedback. What do you want to know about our week , our processes, or just cake in general? We look forward to sharing with you!
